New Artist: White Lies

White Lies may not need my humble services to help spread the word about them becoming the next big thing, but if you haven't heard of these guys yet, you should consider checking them out. The band was recently featured on the cover of NME magazine and have gained quite a following in the UK with their debut album, Lose My Life. The album is scheduled for a US release on March 17 and the band will kick off a US tour starting with SXSW on March 20 (dates below).

White Lies make grand alternative rock music in the style of Interpol or Editors with a very dark, almost sinister edge. Songwriter/bassist Charles Cave writes dramatic tales of death and love for big-voiced singer/guitarist Harry McVeigh and drummer Jack Brown to present in epic fashion, which they do throughout their debut's ten tracks. Opener "Death" overcomes a heavy title and dark lyrics in a explosion of drums, synths, and guitar, "Fifty On Our Foreheads" is a soaring ballad, and "Farewell to the Fairground" shows the group's more danceable side with an infectious drum beat. To Lose My Life is a solid first effort from the band, with enough great moments to establish them a legitimate new presence in the rock 'n' roll scene.

White Lies, a trio of young London post-punks who just topped the UK charts with their debut album To Lose My Life and grabbed some unlikely ears for their broody rock with a cover of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.
