White Lies make grand alternative rock music in the style of Interpol or Editors with a very dark, almost sinister edge. Songwriter/bassist Charles Cave writes dramatic tales of death and love for big-voiced singer/guitarist Harry McVeigh and drummer Jack Brown to present in epic fashion, which they do throughout their debut's ten tracks. Opener "Death" overcomes a heavy title and dark lyrics in a explosion of drums, synths, and guitar, "Fifty On Our Foreheads" is a soaring ballad, and "Farewell to the Fairground" shows the group's more danceable side with an infectious drum beat. To Lose My Life is a solid first effort from the band, with enough great moments to establish them a legitimate new presence in the rock 'n' roll scene.

White Lies, a trio of young London post-punks who just topped the UK charts with their debut album To Lose My Life and grabbed some unlikely ears for their broody rock with a cover of Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown.
